What Is Responsible Data Science?

Our Definition

Responsible Data Science is the intentional planning, development, application, and improvement of data-based and computational tools with the values of communities and organizations to empower positive decisions and mitigate harm.

Carnegie HERO Project

The Carnegie HERO (Hero-Inspired Education and Research Outreach) Project is an exciting new collaboration between the Carnegie Hero Fund Commission (Hero Fund) and the Responsible Data Science Initiative at the University of Pittsburgh (RDS@Pitt), within the broader Roddey Altruism Program<—an ambitious effort to build a thriving interdisciplinary community centered on the study of altruism and heroic acts.

ConCReTE Curriculum

Our ConCReTE Curriculum cultivates agency, accountability, and confidence in learners through applied skills necessary for the age of AI. It includes context and datasets that are expanded into individual responsible data science opportunities (RDSOs) that allow learners to simulate decision-making in an online, simulated system.
