The Hub for AI and Data Science Leadership (HAIL) represents a pivotal moment in the University of Pittsburgh’s commitment to leading in the responsible, innovative, and human-centered use of artificial intelligence and data science.
Established under the direction of Michael Colaresi, HAIL brings together existing AI and data science efforts across Pitt into a cohesive, visible, and collaborative hub. By aligning people, programs, and practices, HAIL amplifies the impact of work already happening across the University while creating new pathways for shared learning and coordinated action.
HAIL’s work extends beyond AI literacy. The Hub focuses on building agency, confidence, and accountability—equipping learners, researchers, and practitioners to lead thoughtfully in an AI-driven world. Through interdisciplinary collaboration and applied programs, HAIL helps Pitt translate ambition into action and position itself as a national leader in responsible AI and data science education, research, and leadership.
Vision: A world where all teams align their use of AI and data science to their principles.
Mission: To create frameworks that inspire organizations to maximize the value of AI and data science in a responsible way.
