Kendra Oliver

Managing Director for The Hub for AI and Data Science Leadership

Kendra H. Oliver, Ph.D., M.P.S., serves as the Managing Director of the Hub for AI and Data Science Leadership (HAIL) in the Office of the Provost at the University of Pittsburgh, where she works closely with university leadership to advance a cohesive vision for AI and data science across research, education, and operations. Reporting to the Associate Vice Provost for Data Science, she leads strategy, partnerships, and programming that position Pitt as a leader in responsible, real-world applications of AI and data science.

In this role, Kendra directs cross-university initiatives that integrate responsible data science principles into institutional practice, fosters collaborations across academic, industry, and community partners, and oversees the development of flagship programs such as the DataSci+AI Forum and the HAIL AI Playbook. Her work focuses on building systems that connect people, ideas, and opportunities—enabling students, faculty, and partners to develop and demonstrate digital leadership in an evolving technological landscape.

Kendra’s career sits at the intersection of science, design, and storytelling. With a Ph.D. in Pharmacology and a Master of Professional Studies in User Experience Design, she brings a unique, human-centered approach to AI and data science. Her expertise lies in translating complex scientific and technical concepts into engaging, accessible narratives through visual communication, digital platforms, and experiential learning.

Prior to joining the University of Pittsburgh, Kendra served as Director of Design at Vanderbilt University School of Medicine Basic Sciences and is the founder of ArtLab Studio LLC, a creative consultancy that bridges art and science. Across all of her work, she is driven by a commitment to fostering innovation, expanding access, and creating meaningful connections between science, technology, and society.
