HAIL Graduate Awardees Spotlight: Rose Gatfield-Jeffries

Kicking off our HAIL Graduate Awardees Spotlight Series, we have Rose Gatfield-Jeffries (she/her) from the History and Philosophy of Science Department within the Dietrich School of Arts and Sciences. Gatfield-Jeffries, who has spent three years at Pitt and is beginning her dissertation, is interested in the use of AI in scientific research. Specifically, she uses epistemological (differentiating between justified belief or opinion) and ethical lenses when analyzing this use.

Data in Play at the MLB All-Star Game

Last semester, Professor Meade Johnson’s Projects in Marketing class collaborated with the Fox Sports University program to create marketing campaigns for both the MLB All-Star Game in Atlanta, Georgia, and the Speedway Classic in Bristol, Tennessee.

Our class broke into teams to gather data and perform quantitative and qualitative data analysis to build the foundation of our marketing campaigns on data-driven insights.

Weaving Together Identities and Emotions at Data Science Day 2025 

The Center for Creativity partnered with RDS@Pitt for Data Science Day 2025 to create a hands-on art installation encapsulating people’s emotions and feelings about AI throughout the conference.
