As a senior undergraduate student nearing graduation, it can be jarring to think back to the state of AI, and more specifically Generative AI, my first semester of college. In late 2022, the first version of ChatGPT was gearing up to be released, meaning that while AI was still seeping its way into all walks of life, it had not yet hit the exponential increase of usage and integration that has been seen the past few years.

The buzz around artificial intelligence is no longer just boardroom discussions or tech conferences. Today, AI tools are revolutionizing how millions of people tackle their daily tasks as simple as drafting emails and as advanced as analyzing complex data.

In my role at the Carnegie Hero Fund Commission, I am working on aspects of the HERO Project, which aims to harness the Hero Fund’s century worth of data to study altruism through an open-source data portal.

A major part of my job is to ensure the data remains humanized, ensuring these people’s stories are honored and respected, rather than just being a statistic.
